Addison listening to “Jammin With Friends” on the way to diabetes camp!
I have been a huge Bret Michaels fan since I went to my first Poison concert. I followed every album and enjoyed many concerts over the years. I never expected to meet Bret, nor did I ever expect we would be connected in another way -Type 1 Diabetes. My daughter, Addison, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on February 26, 2010, at the age of 5. As a parent, it is heartbreaking and overwhelming when your child is diagnosed with this disease….
Sam’s friend Cat Greenleaf invited Sam to come meet Bret recently when he was a guest on her show, Talk Stoop. Sam has had type 1 diabetes since he was 21 months old, he’s now a healthy, active, creative eight-year-old who’s learning to play electric guitar. Bret and Sam talked about a number of things – school, music, and, of course, living with diabetes. Sam showed Bret his continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump. Bret and Sam, like all who…
Tess Anderson was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Labor Day 2008 at 8 years old. That didn’t break her spirit though. Instead she has been inspired to encourage others who also have diabetes. Diabetes doesn’t have to stop you from dreaming big as long as you take care of yourself first. Tess is a cyclist, and just completed a 35 mile Tour de Cure ride for her local ADA. Her, Team Tess has been a leading fundraiser for the 4 years since her…
Dear Bret, Every time I hear the song, “Something to Believe In” I picture you and my daughter Sam talking about living with Diabetes. I brought her to see your show at the Turning Stone Casino for her 13th birthday present and we were lucky enough to get to meet you. It was important to me that Sam realize that Diabetes didn’t have to hold her back. That she could be anything she dreamed of, even a rock star! You…
We awesome to meet 4 year old Nicholas, a type 1 diabetic who came to the Lynchburg show. The Life Rocks Foundation is going to be sending him to summer camp! Keep on rockin’ for a cure Nicholas!
Dear Bret, We just wanted to send you a HUGE THANK YOU for sending my son Kenden to diabetes camp. I did not say anything to Kenden when I sent in the application and when Patrick called me to tell me that you would be sending Kenden to camp I was about to cry, but I held it together on the phone. After Patrick and I hung up, I had to sit down and take it all in, overwhelmed I…
Laramie, a diabetic child who we sent to diabetes camp was also able to visit the New York Yankees dugout through the Bret Michaels “Life Rocks Foundation” and sent this awesome letter and photos. Hope you had an awesome time Laramie!
Dear Bret, First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for sending me to camp!! My mom was so excited to tell me she had met you and that you offered to send me to camp. I couldn’t believe it. I had just been diagnosed for six months when she met you, so it was very emotional for us. Thank you so much. I just got back a couple days ago. The day I got back I got to go to…
After a fun family vacation up in Duluth MN this weekend we headed to Camp Needlepoint in Hudson WI today to drop our 10 year old daughter Cassie off at diabetes camp. She was excited but at the same time a little nervous about staying a whole week . I reassured her it was going to be an incredible experience & she was going to meet so many new friends. On Friday night, as part of her birthday present I…
